Deluxe Celebrity Neighbors By Ana Artz
Deluxe Celebrity Neighbors
Who would be the ideal celebrity neighbor? By Ana Artz
I’ve seen various movies representing deluxe celebrity homes, with most of the A-listers living in huge 6-story mansions in downtown LA or Miami. Often, these homes feature luxurious pools the size of “regular sized” homes, DJ booths that can project sound into next week, and NBA approved basketball courts. Now, that could be nice to live next to because it would likely mean that my house is likely in the same way or size (meaning that I’m super mega ultra rich). However, it could also mean that while I’m trying to sleep at 2-3am the celebrity next to me is raging at some super mega ultra rich person party, which wouldn’t be ideal for someone who needs at least 8 hours of sleep every night to be able to properly function the next day.
Even though movie portrayals aren’t always accurate in the sense of these mega-mansions, I would prefer to live next to some older or more laid-back celebrity so I could assure that the whole neighborhood won’t be kept up by partying every single night. For example, an older woman would be nice like Olivia Newton John if she were still alive.
Another downside to these mega celebrities would be the amount of stalking they have to go through. With crazed fans and paparazzi randomly showing up at their house, I would ultimately kind of get scared for my safety too, as these stalker types really do know everything about who they’re interested in at the time. I just feel like they would think “Beyonce has a super cool neighbor? Heck yes I wanna do a deep dive on her too!!”. I have to admit, having paparazzi swarm you does sound really cool at first, but it just becomes so annoying and borderline dangerous once you really think about it. There have been a lot of incidents where they follow these celebrities out for dinner and said celebrities have broken down sobbing asking them to stop following them. A famous example of this is Justin Bieber when he was talking to the paparazzi one day, saying that “It’s not clocking to you that I’m standing on business” (Link at end if you want to watch it)
Overall, it really depends what kind of person you are to determine what kind of celebrity you would want to live next to you. It’s also noted as a difficult decision because you only see the personality of the celebrities onscreen, you don’t ever really get to know the real them, only a character or shadow of them, which makes the choice deceiving.

Hey Ana! This blog was funny and enjoying to read! I also agree with what you said about paparazzi. They would be scary to me too since they don't know when they are crossing lines. I think a portion you could add more reflection in is the second paragraph detailing more about why you would pick specifically Olivia Newton John, since you put that out there. Other than that, I think this is a great blog! Good job!
ReplyDeleteHi Ana, it seems you've deeply considered the variety of concerns that come with a celebrity neighbor, so on that front you're all good. I've never though about this before, but the paparazzi and partying could definitely be annoying. For your title, maybe make it "Why I do/don't want a celebrity neighbor." This still sounds like a blog title but it better prepares the reader for you're perspective on this issue. When you say "It’s also noted as a difficult decision," I think this is a little bit out of tone. Since this is a personal essay, you can use the first person and say things like "I'd find this decision difficult..." Finally, in the last paragraph, you could add a specific concern about how a certain celebrity might not live up to your expectations.
ReplyDeleteHola Ana. I fount it very interesting the way you approached this essay prompt, it was very unique. Most people would have thought of their favorite celebrity and all the cool things they would do if they were their neighbor. You look at it from a practical stand point and consider your own safety and comfort which is very important. To be honest with you I would not have thought of all these potential downsides to having a celebrity neighbor. Now that I have read your essay I agree with you in having a more laid back and chill celebrity. I think it would be nice that you explicitly say something along the lines, "I want a chill celeb because I value my comfort and safety" it could help. Still this was a nice essay to read, great work Ana!
ReplyDeleteHi Ana! I enjoyed reading your essay, it felt very you with your typical use of adjectives. I can see your personality shining through your words, and I find it fun! As for what's written, I think you could talk more about the positives of having said celebrities as your neighbor. I feel like when I was reading your essay, you talk more about the downsides and negatives of having a celebrity neighbor. I think just explaining the personality of the celebrity might help you explain it more. Additionally, I love the little insert of Justin Bieber's "It's not clocking to you" quote, I did indeed laugh at that. Overall, great blog!
